The “summer anime” season, which began airing in July, includes popular anime such as “Oshi no Ko” and “Kimi ni Todoke.” Even though it is a quarterly (three-monthly) season, there are so many titles that some may be unsure about and need clarification on which ones to watch. This time, we will introduce four anime that are not part of an established series but that we have selected from the perspective of being “useful” and “profitable.”
The Young Lord Who Was Good at Escape This film depicts the exploits of Hojo Tokiyuki, famous for the Nakasendai Rebellion, and challenges Ashikaga Takauji (Takauji) to battle. It skillfully combines entertainment and history.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin A useless goddess devotes herself to rice farming on an uncivilized remote island and struggles to defeat demons. The protagonist’s dedication to rice farming and spiritual growth are also featured.
Modern Mistranslation This unique comedy anime is based on famous quotes and was planned by voice actors Kenjiro Tsuda and Daisuke Namikawa. The second half is live-action, revealing the inside story of the production.
2.5-Dimensional Temptation (Lirisa): A romantic comedy directly approaching cosplay culture. It will broaden the knowledge and perspective of subculture fans.
Expert Comments and Opinions
Anime series are popular; anyone can watch them with peace of mind. Remaking anime that has been popular in recent years is also a hot topic. However, they are only popular if there is a new “push” from the public.
“The Prince Who Ran Away” explores the interest in the period from the fall of the Kamakura Shogunate to the early Muromachi period, when wars were raging. At the same time, “Sakunahime” touches on the essence of ancient Japanese rice-growing culture. “Modern Mistranslations” shows a desire to express things outside the bounds of traditional anime, while “2.5-Dimensional Temptation” delves thoughtfully into the cosplay theme.
Since tastes vary from person to person, I can’t say that “everyone can enjoy it.” But if you watch it once, you might realize something or be fascinated.
