The Mobile Suit Gundam X 30th Anniversary celebration is officially underway with a special project titled “Gundam X Is Always There.” To mark three decades since the beloved mecha anime first premiered, the project will bring memorable moments from all 39 episodes to fans through a nationwide poster display and a special social media giveaway.
Beginning September 14, 2026, 39 different posters inspired by the 39 episodes of Mobile Suit Gundam X will appear at Gundam-related facilities and other locations across Japan. Each poster focuses on memorable scenes and characters from a specific episode, giving longtime fans an opportunity to revisit the series while introducing new viewers to some of its most iconic moments.
The project also includes a social media campaign running from September 7 through September 30, giving fans a chance to win one of 30 special A5 mini-posters featuring newly illustrated artwork created for the upcoming “Mobile Suit Gundam X Complete Records A.W. 30th Chronicle.”
Mobile Suit Gundam X Celebrates 30 Years
Mobile Suit Gundam X first premiered on Japanese television on April 5, 1996, as the third entry in the Gundam Alternative series, which explores settings and histories separate from the main Universal Century timeline. The series aired in 1996 and consists of 39 episodes.
For newcomers, the Alternative series concept simply means that Gundam X does not take place in the same timeline as the original Mobile Suit Gundam and many of its sequels. Instead, it creates its own version of the Gundam universe, complete with its own history, political conflicts, characters, and mobile suits.
The story takes place in the After War timeline, following a devastating conflict in which massive numbers of space colonies were dropped onto Earth. The disaster dramatically changed the planet and left civilization struggling to recover.
At the center of the story is Garrod Ran, a young survivor who becomes involved with the mobile suit Gundam X. His journey is closely connected to Tiffa Adill, a mysterious Newtype girl, as well as the crew of the Freeden. The series combines giant robot battles with themes of survival, human relationships, war, and the consequences of conflict.
Thirty years after its original broadcast, the anniversary project is designed around the idea that Gundam X has never truly disappeared. Instead, it continues to live through the memories, collections, experiences, and personal connections of its fans.
39 Episodes, 39 Special Posters
The centerpiece of the “Gundam X Is Always There” campaign is the nationwide poster project.
Starting September 14, 2026, a total of 39 different posters will be displayed, with each poster representing one episode of the original television anime. Rather than using a single anniversary design, the campaign gives every episode its own visual identity.
The posters feature memorable scenes and characters from their respective episodes. This makes the project especially appealing to longtime fans who may recognize a favorite battle, character moment, or important story event at a glance.
The official Gundam X campaign describes the project as a way for iconic scenes from all 39 episodes to “reappear” across Japan. Display locations will be announced gradually through the official Gundam X account, meaning fans will need to keep checking for new location information.
The displays are also designed to create a sense of discovery. A fan visiting a Gundam-related facility or traveling around Japan could encounter a poster representing an episode that holds special meaning for them.
The display period begins on September 14, although the official campaign notes that individual displays may end without advance notice.
“Gundam X to You” Social Media Giveaway
The anniversary celebration is not limited to physical posters. The official campaign is also inviting fans to share what Gundam X means to them.
The social media campaign runs from September 7 at 6:00 p.m. JST until September 30 at 11:59 p.m. JST. Participants are asked to post a photograph representing something that reminds them of Gundam X or something through which they personally “feel” the series.
To participate, fans must:
- Follow the official Gundam account on X.
- Quote-repost the designated campaign post.
- Include a photograph and write about “Gundam X to you” or what the series means to them.
- Add the hashtag #GundamXIsAlwaysThere at the end of the post.
A total of 30 winners will be selected by lottery to receive a special A5-size mini-poster.
The giveaway therefore focuses not only on collecting merchandise but also on the personal memories fans associate with Gundam X. Whether it is a favorite model kit, artwork, location, childhood memory, or another object connected to the series, the campaign encourages fans to show their own connection to the franchise.
Three Special Mini-Poster Designs
The 30 giveaway winners will receive one of three different mini-poster designs.
The artwork comes from newly created illustrations prepared for the official “Mobile Suit Gundam X Complete Records A.W. 30th Chronicle.” Ten winners will receive each design, for a total of 30 prizes.
The designs are particularly notable because they connect the social media campaign with one of the biggest Gundam X anniversary releases planned for 2027.
The three artworks include designs associated with major creative contributors to the series and the anniversary record collection, including newly drawn illustrations by Junya Ishigaki, Kunio Okawara, and Seihō Nishimura.
Because the prizes are selected by lottery, participants cannot choose which of the three designs they receive.
Gundam X A.W. 30th Chronicle Book Announced
One of the most significant additions to the 30th-anniversary celebration is the upcoming “Mobile Suit Gundam X Complete Records A.W. 30th Chronicle.”
The large anniversary publication is scheduled to be released on January 26, 2027, and is priced at ¥14,300 including tax. Orders are currently scheduled to remain open until October 4, 2026, according to the official Gundam X anniversary site.
The book is planned as a substantial archival collection rather than a simple anniversary artbook. It will include production materials, setting information, rough designs, character and mobile suit materials, planning documents, and other behind-the-scenes content from the creation of Gundam X.
The DREAMS volume is planned as an A4 full-color book with more than 250 pages. It will include a guide to all 39 episodes, storyboards for memorable scenes from Episode 1 and Episode 39, cast interviews, staff interviews, and additional material.
The collection will also include several cast roundtable discussions. Confirmed participants include Wataru Takagi, who voiced Garrod Ran, and Mika Kanai, who voiced Tiffa Adill, along with other major members of the original cast.
The book’s packaging is also being treated as a special anniversary item. Mechanical designer Junya Ishigaki has created new artwork featuring Gundam X and Gundam Double X, while additional cover artwork has been created by character designer Seihō Nishimura and mechanical designer Kunio Okawara.
A Special Anniversary for Longtime Fans
For fans who have followed Gundam X since the 1990s, the anniversary campaign offers more than nostalgia. The project brings together the original 39-episode series, new artwork, archival production materials, cast interviews, and fan participation.
The decision to create one poster for every episode is particularly fitting because it allows the entire television series to be celebrated rather than focusing only on its most famous characters or mobile suits.
It also gives newer Gundam fans an easy way to discover the series. Someone who has never watched Gundam X may encounter one of the posters, become interested in its characters or mobile suits, and then explore the original 1996 anime.
The project’s title, “Gundam X Is Always There,” reflects the central idea behind the celebration: even three decades after the anime first aired, its characters, stories, designs, and memories remain part of the Gundam fan community.
What Fans Can Expect in September 2026
The Gundam X 30th Anniversary celebration is now entering an important stage.
From September 14, fans in Japan will be able to look for the 39 episode-themed posters, while the social media campaign continues until September 30. At the same time, the official anniversary project is continuing to promote the A.W. 30th Chronicle, which is scheduled for release in January 2027.
This makes 2026 an especially important year for Mobile Suit Gundam X. Instead of simply marking the anniversary with a single illustration, the project is revisiting the entire series and giving fans multiple ways to celebrate it.
For longtime viewers, it is a chance to remember the episodes and characters that made an impression decades ago. For newcomers, it is an opportunity to discover one of the more distinctive entries in the Gundam franchise.
The Mobile Suit Gundam X 30th Anniversary “Gundam X Is Always There” project is a celebration built around the full history of the 1996 series. With 39 episode-inspired posters, a fan-focused social media campaign, exclusive mini-posters, and the upcoming A.W. 30th Chronicle, the anniversary is giving Gundam X fans several ways to reconnect with the series.
For a show that originally aired three decades ago, the project is also a reminder of how long-running anime franchises can remain meaningful to audiences. Gundam X may belong to a different era of Gundam, but its characters, mobile suits, and story continue to have a dedicated fanbase—and the 30th anniversary project is bringing those memories back into the spotlight.
