“Baban Baban Bang Vampire” is a “vampire romantic comedy” by Hiromasa Okushima that is currently being serialized in “Bessatsu Shonen Champion”. Ranmaru Mori works part-time at a public bathhouse and is a 450-year-old vampire. Ranmaru seeks the ultimate taste of “the blood of an 18-year-old virgin” and spends his days watching the growth and purity of Li Jin (15 years old), the only son of the public bathhouse.
However, one day, Li Jin fell in love with a female classmate at first sight. If love were to succeed, there would be a risk of losing one’s virginity. Suddenly faced with a desperate situation, Ranmaru’s desperate “strategy to stop her from losing her virginity” begins, “I can’t let her fall in love with me!”
This work, which began serialization in the November 2021 issue of “Bessatsu Shonen Champion,” has an unconventional setting, an addictive worldview that you can’t get rid of once you read it, and a beauty that is out of this world, yet somehow silly. Fans are captivated by Ranmaru and other lovable, quirky characters and by the chaotic storyline they weave. Manga connoisseur Kirin Akira Kawashima highly praised it, and it has been featured on TV and other media and has become a hot topic on social media.
It has been decided that this work will be made into a live-action film and a TV anime at the same time on February 29th, which is Garlic Day, which happens once every four years. In December 2023, when the 6th volume of the book was released, it was announced that it would be made into a media, and fans were excited to hear such comments as “I’m so excited!”, “I’m happy with both the anime and the movie!” and “Ranmaru-sama is moving!?” This was a long-awaited announcement as attention was focused on the follow-up report. The live-action movie will be co-produced by Shochiku and TV Asahi and released nationwide in 2025 with Shochiku distribution. The TV anime is scheduled to be broadcast on TV Asahi in 2025.
Regarding this double media adaptation, original author Okushima said, “I still can’t believe it. However, I 100% believe in and support everyone involved in anime and live-action movies who are working hard to make them interesting.” Please enjoy making it! Let’s watch all the manga, anime, and live-action movies with clear eyes to see which is the most interesting!!” and continued to draw more. A new illustration has also arrived.
This illustration depicts Ranmaru holding out his hand as if aiming for prey, with a public bath in the background and Lee Jin standing behind him with a look of excitement on his face. It also included, “I’m looking forward to seeing Ran-chan and the others in action in live-action and animation!” Please wait for future updates for details, such as the cast and staff of the W Media adaptation and the release date.
