Episode 4, “First Time and Friends,” shows Hana unsure which book to read for the National School Competition. During lunch break, she goes to the broadcasting club for advice. Still, Mizuki has invited her to appear on the school’s afternoon radio show, “SMG Radio.”
Hana is impressed by Mizuki’s witty talk but cannot answer questions not in the script. She becomes flustered, which leaves her disheartened. Feeling encouraged by a conversation with classmate Nekoi Miyiko, Hana hesitates about trying SMG Radio again. Then, vice president Seii Ryoko calls out to Hana.

“Flowers Bloom, Like a Shura” is a coming-of-age story about Hana, who lives on Tonaru Island, a small island with a population of 600, joining the broadcasting club at high school and deepening her love of reciting with her friends.
Takeda Ayano, known for her work on “Sound! Euphonium,” portrays the growth of a high school student’s heart, and up-and-coming author Mushu draws it with delicate strokes. Hana Haruyama, who lives on Tonaru Island, a small island with a population of 600, loves reciting so much that she holds reciting sessions for the island’s children. Mizuki Usurai, who senses the power of Hana’s “reading” to attract people, invites her to join the broadcasting club, of which he is the president.
