The Jujutsu Kaisen by Gege Akutami epitomizes the contemporary shonen period. It is, without question, the most talked-about series of late, and Studio Mappa deserves some credit for ensuring the anime adaptation does the series justice. All that being said, the show is receiving a lot of criticism for its rehashed storyline.
Jujutsu Kaisen has entered its final stretch with the ongoing Culling Game arc, which is turning out to be the best plot arc of the series. Fans have been captivated by numerous captivating occurrences thus far, such as the intense battle between Satoru Gojo and Ryomen Sukuna, the two strongest sorcerers.
However, as the manga develops and more and more predictable chapters are released, readers already become weary of the narrative. Sukuna has seen so many positive consequences from the current story arc that some are wondering if it could be dubbed “Jujutsu Kaisen? or Sukuna Kaisen?
Sukuna has triumphed over every obstacle in the story arc, and it appears that he has now transformed into the embodiment of plot armor. Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen were divided after a bold X (formerly Twitter) user stated what many had been thinking about from the start.
“I’ll tell you why I don’t like Jujutsu Kaisen,” the X user wrote. Given that Sukuna is the last adversary and incredibly strong, it makes sense to assume that some of the important characters would perish. Thus, the group of heroes had to have prepared their approach to deal with the King of Curses.
However, what has the arc shown us thus far? Without pausing for contemplation, they all charge into battle against Sukuna and are destroyed. Upon entering the combat without any preparation or strategy, even the most formidable of them all, Satoru Gojo, found himself divided in two. The user assertively came to the conclusion that the story was being drawn out needlessly.
“Gege Akutami wants to protect Sukuna even if it means ruining the reputation of his work,” a humorous comment was posted by a user. That is the essence of true love. Many readers are dissatisfied with Akutami’s work, and some are curious as to whether the author will launch a surprise attack a la Demon Slayer.
The plot of Sukuna overcoming sorcerers one after another has been so overdone that readers have begun to stop reading the manga altogether. There are a lot of negative comments floating around, and only time will tell if the show will continue to grow or fail completely from this point on.
