By now, every anime fan has probably heard of the infamous “Redo of Healer” anime, which is based on a light novel written by Rui Tsukiyo. The anime adaptation was very brutal and didn’t shy away from showing all of the “intimate” scenes, but what if I told you that the original “Redo of Healer” light novel was even more brutal? I decided to give three sets from the series a look and compare them in their manga/light novel/anime form.
Episode 2 – Keyaru torturing Flare
Let’s say that the “finger” scene was turned down a lot in both the anime and the manga. While Flare had to endure having her fingers broken in the anime and manga, it was much worse in the novel. Not only did Keyaru break Flare’s fingers, but he also broke her toes and tore her nails off. The anime also stopped at the “first round” of the game Keyaru proposed. The novel, however, included over ten rounds, meaning that Flare had her fingers and toes broken over ten times. What’s more, he didn’t use his ability to “cripple” her; he just cut her legs so she wouldn’t run away. As you can see, compared to the novel, anime and manga were quite “soft” in this scene.
Episode 6 – Keyaru torturing Renard
If you watched the show, you probably remember this scene. Renard gets transformed into a woman, and drugged knights have fun with him. Then Keyaru sets the building on fire and leaves. The scene in the novel isn’t too long but describes what happened in more detail. According to the novel, the knights had fun for almost an entire day, and Renard died from suffocation. To top it off, Keyaru watched the whole thing before setting the inn on fire.
Episode 11 – Keyaru torturing Blade
I looked into the last scene where Blade gets eaten as she couldn’t complete Keyaru’s “challenge.” The anime and manga showed us bits and pieces of the scene. To my surprise, this scene was almost entirely skipped in the novel. Reading through the previous two scenes, I thought we would get to read something on a similar level. The process of the “challenge” was completely removed as we get to read only the start and the aftermath.
As you can see, apart from the scene with Blade, the original “Redo of Healer” work is much more violent and brutal. It goes into detail about each torture, and, to top it off, the sufferings are way more messed up than the ones we got to see in the anime.
What is Redo of Healer
Redo of Healer anime aired in Winter 2021 season and had a total of 12 episodes. It had both a censored and uncensored version. The anime series is based on a light novel under the same name. The author recently mentioned that a second season of the anime adaptation might happen and asked his fans to support the show.
