The latest film in the series, The Lord of the Rings: Battle of Rohan, an animated film depicting the legendary battle 200 years before the movie, will be released on December 27, 2024. Scene cuts featuring the familiar white wizard Saruman have arrived from this film. It has also been revealed that the voice of the late Christopher Lee, who played Saruman in the live-action film, will be used for dubbing.

Saruman from the live-action film The Lord of the Rings is here. Philippa Boyens, who wrote the screenplays for all the series and is involved in this film as a producer, said that the idea for this film came from a letter she received from Christopher Lee when he was alive and a conversation she had with his wife, Birgitte Kroenke. Rather than using AI technology to restore the audio, the talented staff searched for the audio from the vast archives of the past Lord of the Rings series, with the consent of Lee’s wife, Gitte Kroenke, when he was alive, to make this happen.

In The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), a different take of Saruman’s line “Are you in need of assistance, my Lady?” was used. Philippa Boyens revealed, “To be honest, I didn’t know if I could find that line.” Booking another actor who could produce the same voice was possible. Still, she expressed her joy to overseas media, saying, “There may be someone who can play Christopher Lee’s voice, but I don’t think so. I’m thrilled I could use his voice, which I think is wonderful.” Saruman is played by a great actor who continues to be enthusiastically supported by the staff. I’m curious to see what position he, one of the most popular characters in the series, will take in this film.

In addition to the “miracle” of hearing Christopher Lee’s voice on the big screen again, The Lord of the Rings: The Battle of Rohan is packed with elements that are irresistible to fans of The Lord of the Rings. Japan’s world-renowned top creators, such as MAPPA, Production IG, and STUDIO4°C gathered under the Japanese production studio “Studio Sola Entertainment” and thoroughly stuck to Japanese “hand-drawn animation.”

The battle that decides the fate of and the fierce struggle of the protagonist Hela, who is entrusted with the future of the people of Rohan and is prepared to “die,” are depicted in plenty as an emotional drama. The world of that captivated the world is moving again in this work, and expectations are high for what surprises, excitement, and emotions await.
