Blackpink became the first K-pop girl group to top the UK official album chart.
According to the UK official chart on the 23rd (local time), Black Pink’s 2nd full-length album, ‘BORN PINK,’ released on the 16th, topped the album chart. It is a feat established on the UK main chart, which is called the world’s two most extensive charts along with the US Billboard.
The previous record for a female K-pop artist was also second in Blackpink’s first full-length album, ‘THE ALBUM,’ released in 2020. Martin Talbot, CEO of the Official Chart Company, which operates the official charts, congratulated them, saying, “It is a fantastic achievement for Blackpink to become number one with ‘Born Pink.’ It is an eternal record in the record book.”
BLACKPINK achieved good results not only on the album but also on the official single Top 100. While the title song ‘Shut Down’ ranked 24th, the popularity of the pre-released music ‘Pink Venom’ is not unusual. The song first entered #22 right after its release in August and has maintained high weekly rankings such as #37, #40, and #47.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will open its world tour on October 15th and 16th at KSPO DOME, Olympic Park, Seoul.
