Hello, my name is Supitoyo Sugiyama. We will deliver selected news and rumors about the recent Marvel and DC American comic hero movies with commentary!

The latest trailer for the blockbuster DC movie “Black Adam” starring Dwayne Johnson has been released worldwide simultaneously. This trailer was unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con in July and finally released. It’s an action-filled trailer, but let’s explain what you’re worried about and what you’ve seen in this trailer.

As preliminary knowledge, in the setting of the comic.

Black Adam is an anti-hero (and villain) in the DC comics world.

Originally created as a rival character for Shazam (“Shazam!”). Shazam has the power of the Greek gods, while Black Adam has the power of the Egyptian gods.

Before the Justice League, there was (or is) a hero team called the Justice Society of America (JSA).

“I think you can get a sense of the flow of the story to some extent from the trailer.” A superhuman named Black Adam, played by Dwayne Johnson, wakes up from his 5,000-year sleep. However, he is not a hero but rather a dangerous existence. The JSA is dispatched to suppress him. But the story doesn’t just end with the battle between Black Adam and the JSA. There is an army with mysterious high-tech weapons. Are they the real villains in this work? “And then a demonic boss character appears?”

“First of all, the biggest surprise of the trailer is the woman who appears at the 48th second!” That’s right, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) appeared in “Suicide Squad” and “The Suicide Squad ‘Super’ Villains, Assemble.” Amanda is a high-ranking government official behind the Suicide Squad (Task Force X). In other words, the fact that Amanda appears here means that “Black Adam” is linked to the world view of Suicide Squad, that is, the DC world where the Justice League is located, such as Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman. Is. It’s called the DC Extended Universe (DEUC).

And Amanda’s aim is either (1) she was trying to eliminate Black Adam by dispatching the Suicide Squad, or (2) she was trying to draw Black Adam into the Suicide Squad. However, JSA appears because it is left to the hero here.

If the world of the movie “Black Adam” is the DCEU, then the JSA is also a hero team that exists in the DCEU. In this movie version (DCEU version), JSA seems to be led by the golden masked hero Doctor Fate, played by Pierce Brosnan. And dispatched with a super jet hidden in the mansion. It’s a bit like Marvel’s X-Men. This jet is similar to the Javelin that appeared in the animated version of Justice League. Under Doctor Fate are the winged superhuman Hawkman, the green tornado girl Cyclone, and Atom Smasher, who can change his body size (giant). They are members of the JSA.

“Here comes an armed group with amazing weapons.” Maybe they’re the intergang criminals in DC comics. Originally a criminal group that appeared in Superman comics, they later acquired the weapons of the space genie and armed them. It became a threat that can be crossed with superheroes. Did Intergang also target Black Adam?

And then, at around 2 minutes and 4 seconds, a red demon-like character appears. This is probably a villain called Sabacc. In the comics, Shazam and Black Adam cast spells to gain the power of the six gods whose initials are “Shazam,” but Sabak is the six demons of Satan, Aim, Belial, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, and Crates. It is a name/spell taken from the initials, and by chanting it, you can gain the power of six demons. Since Black Adam is the God of Destruction this time, Black Adam VS Sabacc will be a great battle of God of Destruction VS Devil.

In the trailer’s opening scene, the location where Black Adam is sinking in the sea is reminiscent of “Man of Steel,” which depicts Superman. So many. In other words, Black Adam is a superhuman comparable to Superman. And he calls this power a “curse” rather than a “gift.” This is what Peter said in Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of rampage Dwayne Johnson will show while inheriting the tradition of such hero movies. Also, JSA is cool. After all, Hawkman’s visual is numb. Doctor Fate also uses various magic, but he may play the role of Doctor Strange in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) in the upcoming DCEU.

As I wrote earlier, he appeared as a rival to Shazam in the comics. Shazam’s sequel, Shazam! ~Wrath of the Gods~” will be released simultaneously in Japan and the United States on March 17, 2023. “Black Adam” to “Shazam! ~Wrath of the Gods~” or “Shazam! Will Black Adam appear in some form in ~Wrath of the Gods~? “I have high hopes for this area as well.”
