It is a collection of masterpieces but mixed reviews. Robot anime is a big genre with many fans, and in 2025, new works in popular series such as “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuX” will be broadcast. Looking back at 2015, 10 years ago, there were many attractive works, although there were mixed reviews in October 2015. Many fans will be fascinated by the rugged style that exudes a “Yakuza” atmosphere not present in “Gundam” until then. In particular, the highlight is the first appearance scene in which the ” Gundam Barbatos,” driven by the main character “Mikazuki Augus,” appears from a cloud of dust and crushes his opponent with a mace.

The first season, which focuses on these points and follows the rise of Tekkadan, centered around Orga Itsuka, whom Mikazuki regards as an older brother, became popular. However, the second season, which began in October 2016, saw Tekkadan fall into ruin. The unreasonable enemy tactics and other aspects drew criticism. Another robot anime with a harsh worldview, Fafner in the Azure EXODUS, was broadcast in two seasons in January and October.

This is a sequel to Fafner in the Azure, which aired in 2004. It depicts the fierce battle between the protagonist, Ikki Makabe, and others who board the operated weapon Fafner and the unknown lifeforms Festum and the Human Army that attack humanity, centering on the isolated island Ryugujima, where they live. The style is merciless, and even the main characters make unexpected exits, causing viewers to scream.

The film also depicts the harsh reality of the situation, with captured Fafner pilots being returned in coolers and cornered residents choosing to kill themselves. This lack of salvation is what makes this film a masterpiece. Speaking of heroic robots, the third film in the Aquarion series, Aquarion Logos, which has been running since 2005, was broadcast in July.

The film depicts a word-themed battle in the Logos World, a parallel world centered around the protagonist Haibuki Akira, who calls himself the savior. The atmosphere of this film’s worldview and character design has been completely renewed from the previous movie Aquarion EVOL, and mystical elements such as mythology and reincarnation have been overshadowed.

Although it has been evaluated as a standalone film, with some saying that it is a “well-rounded work that properly resolves the plot at the end” and that the first half, which seemed inconsistent, was also a plot twist, fans of the series throughout the series cannot hide their confusion at the entirely different atmosphere from the previous film. Some express disappointment, saying there is “no point in it being Aquarion.”

The new series Myth of Emotions, scheduled to air in 2025, will also significantly change the main characters’ designs. They will be drawn in a deformed, cartoon-like style, and seeing how it is received will be interesting.
