Trese, a Netflix Original anime series set in Manila where legendary animals of Philippine folklore hide among people, will be delivered on the streaming service on 11 June.
The show based on the popular Filipino noir dream realistic novel series of a similar title, composed by Budjette Tan and illustrated by Kajo Baldisimo.
Filipino actress Liza Soberano provided the voice of the hero Alexandra Trese in the Filipino language rendition, while Filipino-Canadian entertainer Shay Mitchell voiced the character in the English language version.
Trese is a occultist who uses the force of the mandirigmang-babaylan, or champion shaman. Furnished with her otherworldly information and mysterious weapons like her blade, the Sinag, she is called upon to research extraordinary wonders around there, regularly clashing with malignant creatures like the tikbalang or santelmo.
We believe it’s really cool that Netflix is including stories based on the mythology and folklore of this corner of Southeast Asia. Watch this space for our audit of the anime!
