It has been announced that a new TV special, “Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Stairs to Adulthood”, based on the anime “Kaguya-sama: Love Is War”, based on Akasaka Aka’s popular romantic comedy manga serialized in “Weekly Young Jump” (Shueisha), will be broadcast on TOKYO MX and other stations from 10 pm on December 31st.
In this entirely new one-hour special, Suzuki Masayuki and Koga Aoi, the voice actress for the main character Shinomiya Kaguya, will perform the opening theme song “Abunai Kioku” as “Suzuki Masayuki feat. Koga Aoi”.
Suzuki released her first anime theme song, “Love Dramatic feat. Ihara Rikka,” in 2019, labeling herself as a “big newcomer in the anime song world.” Since then, she has been in charge of the theme songs for all series of the TV anime “Kaguya-sama: Love is War,” making this her fifth consecutive song.
Suzuki commented, “I’m Suzuki Masayuki, the ‘big new face in the anime song world,’ returning after about three years. This is the fifth consecutive theme song I’ve provided for the ‘Kaguya-sama: Love is War’ series since the anime began in 2019. I’ll turn 70 next year, and being able to walk this path alongside such wonderful works makes me keenly aware of what it means to have been singing for 45 years.
I’ve met Koga Aoi, my duet partner for my latest song, ‘Abunaikioku,’ several times at ‘Kaguya-sama’ events, but this was the first time we recorded together, and it was truly amazing to see how she understood and immersed herself in the world I was trying to portray in the song and expressed it so well. I think the song expresses the new love tactics of the two main characters after three years. Let’s listen to this song first, and look forward to the new love battle of wits that will be aired at the end of the year.”
Koga said, “I never thought I’d get to sing the opening theme with Suzuki Masayuki, who has supported and colored the series and walked alongside me with the opening theme songs since the first season of ‘Kaguya-sama: Love is War’ until now! My whole body is still trembling.
I’m thrilled and honored, and because it’s the opening theme for a series that is very special to me, a lot of different emotions are running through my mind. I was very nervous when I recorded ‘Absurd Kioku.’ Still, I was also conscious of the series’ subtitle, ‘The Stairway to Adulthood,’ and thought about Kaguya and the others’ pasts, putting all my heart and soul into it. Please listen to the song often and help expand the world of Kaguya-sama. Thank you very much.”
