Sega’s ‘Space Channel 5’ and ‘Comics Zone’ to be made into movies in Hollywood

Sega recently announced that it has agreed to develop two of its own game software “Space Channel 5” and “Comics Zone” with Picture Start Inc.

“Space Channel 5” is a musical action game released for Dreamcast in 1999. The story is about a rookie reporter working for a space broadcasting station in the future who rescues people who were forced to dance by a mysterious alien in a dance battle.

In the production, Barry Battles, who directed and wrote the crime comedy “Gangbusters” starring Billy Bob Thornton and Eva Longoria, and Nil, who directed and wrote the sci-fi movie “EXTRACTED” (12). It is said that Paniri will write.

“Comics Zone” is an action game released for Mega Drive in 1995. It is a story about the main character who gets lost in the world of a manga he drew and fights to escape. The film adaptation will be directed by Mae Cat, who wrote the Emmy Award-winning original animated TV series Young Justice for HBO Max.

From PictureStart, CEOs Eric Fake and Lois Reeves-Darby oversee both projects. Produced with Sammy Kim Falpay, who is a member of the company’s management team.

On the other hand, from Sega, vice president Shuji Utsumi will supervise both projects, and Toru Nakahara, who was the producer of the “Sonic the Movie” series, will serve as producer of both works. In addition, Takumi Yoshinaga, the company’s game director, will participate in “Space Channel 5,” and Issei Shimomura, the company’s game producer, in “Comics Zone.”
