(Export News Reporter Lee Seul) As the group BTS decides to enlist voluntarily, there is expected to be a gap of at least three years. However, as they promoted K-pop worldwide and raised their national prestige, BTS’ military flag is expected to change the K-pop market significantly.

In 2020, BTS became the first Korean singer to top the US Billboard’s main charts ‘Billboard 200’ and ‘Hot 100’. In addition, she was the first Korean singer to be nominated for a Grammy Award and perform a performance. Furthermore, she rose to the stage at the top three American awards ceremonies, including the Billboard Music Awards and the American Music Awards.

The vacancy of BTS, which occupies the grand prize at numerous domestic and international awards ceremonies, is expected to cause a change in K-pop as a whole. Black Pink, Seventeen, Stray Kids, Tomorrow by Together, and NCT are K-pop singers who will succeed in BTS.

Ha Jae-Geun, a cultural critic, analyzed, “As K-pop’s status as BTS rose, interest in other K-pop singers and Korean culture grew.

He continued, “On the other hand, there was an aspect that other K-pop singers received less attention because BTS’ presence was too great. Maybe they will be able to get attention as the big year of BTS fades away.”

On the 17th, Big Hit Music, the agency of BTS, applied for the cancellation of the postponement of Jin, the eldest of BTS, and announced that he would perform his military service through the enlistment procedure of the Military Manpower Administration. Jin, born in 1992 and 30 years old, was recommended by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism by the revised military service law in 2020, and his enlistment was postponed until the end of this year.

According to Big Hit Music, “Our company and the members hope to resume the activities of the BTS as a whole in 2025, and we will focus on individual activities by each member’s military service plan.”

In the absence of BTS for at least three years, Hive also prepared an alternative letter to shareholders, saying, “We will not settle here and present four or more teams in 2023.”
