Lee Mi-Kyung, vice chairman of CJ Group, has started a global film production project based on K-pop.
According to CJ ENM and Variety, an American entertainment media, on the 10th, this project led by Vice Chairman Lee recently took its first step under the working title of ‘K-Pop: Lost in America.’ Vice-Chairman Lee intends to raise the value of K-content to the next level by matching K-pop with movies that are leading the Korean Wave.
Linda Obst, a veteran Hollywood producer who has produced numerous hits, and director Yoon Je-gyun, respectively, have been producing and directing. Obst’s hit films include ‘Interstellar (2014)’, ‘Sleepless in Seattle (1993)’, ‘One Fine Day (1996)’, and dramas Hot in Cleveland’ and ‘Helix.’ Director Yoon is known as the box office director of ‘Two Million Million’ because he made both ‘International Market (2014)’ and ‘Haeundae (2009)’ into 10 million films.
The movie is about a K-pop boy group making their global debut in New York, USA, and going through ups and downs after arriving in Texas instead of New York just before the concert. Auditions for the lead actors started this month.
Vice-Chairman Lee said, “There is more demand for K-pop and Korean culture than ever before.” “Combining CJ ENM’s world-recognized production capabilities with the quirky minds of Linda Ost and JK Yoon will give global audiences and K-pop fans a boost,” said Vice Chairman Lee. We will be able to present an exceptional film that can appeal to everyone.”
