The ‘100 Best K-Pop Songs’, co-planned and selected by the Seoul Newspaper and Melon’s music platform, are unveiled.
‘K-Pop 100 Great Songs’, which will be released from the 23rd, was completed with the participation of 35 members of the selection committee, including famous music critics, music broadcasters, and music industry officials. In the first and second rounds, 100 songs were recommended, respectively, and the graded scores were aggregated to determine the final 100 song rankings.
This project was prepared to look back on the past quarter-century of K-pop, which has established itself as Korea’s representative cultural product. The year 1996, when HOT, who found the current K-pop idol group, and Clone, who led the first-generation K-pop Hallyu, debuted, debuted as the first year of the K-pop Hallyu. Still, the musical legacy of the preceding generation was not excluded.
The Seoul Shimbun and Melon announce ‘K-Pop 100 Great Songs’ ranking by 20 songs a day for five days until the 27th. The Seoul Shimbun releases content that examines the significance of 100 songs through its official YouTube channel.
