‘2021 K-Pop World Festival’ qualifiers held in western Germany

The main branch of the Korean Embassy in Germany (Consul General Lee Doo-young) will hold the qualifiers for the ‘2021 K-Pop World Festival’ jointly hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Korea Broadcasting System (KBS), and five winners will advance to the finals on July 29. team was selected

A total of 18 teams and 58 German locals participated in this preliminary round. Considering the coronavirus pandemic, only the dance performance section (including the K-pop story section) without the vocal team was conducted non-face-to-face.

Participants submitted cover dance videos of 2 songs (1 essential song, one free song) by July 19. The judges comprised pop culture practitioners and entertainment industry experts judged the videos, and the final five teams were selected.

Five teams, including ‘One More Cup Cream,’ a 7-person mixed squad that took first place in the honor, SERENITY, CHANCEL, NV Dance Crew (dance performance section), and Lou (K-pop story section) received the prizes, and they received the latest mobile phones and earphones. Electronic products were given as prizes.

The winners were included in the judging for the Korean finals scheduled for October 15. Cover dances and team introduction videos of the five winning teams are all sent to KBS. After going through a two-stage screening process, ten selected teams from all over the world submitted by August 31 will be announced in Korea on October 15. The final will be held in Changwon without face-to-face.

The judges for the preliminaries in western Germany, composed of singers from domestic idols and instructors at the German K-pop dance school, said, “It was a pity that this year’s event was held non-face-to-face, but the participants’ selection of songs was more diversified than in previous years, and the choreography and expressive power of K-pop have been greatly improved. I could feel the high interest of local young people in Germany.”

On the other hand, it is reported that the main branch office actively promoted this event, focusing on dance academies and K-pop clubs where K-pop dance classes were opened in their jurisdiction.
