K-pop, attracting attention worldwide, has been a significant factor in its popularity because of its visually diverse and unique performances. For this reason, it is also called ‘music to see.’ To make music with a great stage, idol music producers vary and maximize the music composition and arrangement elements. These elements have become a means of crossing the boundaries of language sufficiently.

While various and splendidly evolved music is pouring in, SM Entertainment (now referred to as SM), leading the K-pop industry, has established the ‘SM Classic’ label and is continuing the challenge of different resolutions. SM Classic is classical, jazz, movie music, and world music. The goal is to expand into a broader genre of music in K-pop that incorporates music. It shows a will to make music faithful to the sights and not to miss the music you listen to simultaneously.

SM signed an MOU for collaboration between genres with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in June 2020, followed by an MOU with the Seoul National University College of Music in March of this year. This collaboration is intended to promote the excellence of K-pop and K-Classic to the world and to lead the development of Korean cultural content by presenting differentiated content that transcends genres.

SM has done their first collaboration through ‘SM Station,’ starting with Red Velvet’s ‘Red Flavor,’ SHINee’s Jonghyun’s ‘End of the Day, NCT U’s ‘Make a Wish,’ and recently Red Velvet’s ‘Feel My Rhythm.” until the orchestra version was released.

The orchestra version, which recreates the familiar K-pop into a classic, is currently receiving good response with over 1 million to 2 million views.

The producing team Monotree is loved for their distinctive songs by participating in albums of famous artists such as Seventeen, SHINee, EXO, Girls’ Generation, Red Velvet, Loona, and ONF recently focused on ‘listen to music. On the 11th, the pianist Junpi’s performance album ‘One of Two’ (1/2) was produced. Monotree’s side worked hard on Junpei’s album to erase and expand the prejudices usually limited to idol music.

Junpi performed concerts and live performances such as Jujak, IU, Park Hyoshin, Taeyeon, and Zion. Monotree caught Junpi’s skills and potential and the demand for music performed. Music without lyrics aims not only for appreciation but also value as background music and various uses such as syncing video materials.

In fact, as an example, the channel of domestic performance music, YouTuber MONOMAN, has 650,000 subscribers. In the case of ‘best sleep-inducing music, study music, insomnia, stress relief, relaxing music, work BGM,’ it has 75.6 million views. is being recorded

In particular, Monotree felt the need to continue the value of listening to music at a time when ‘music to see’ is the main focus of performance and decided that a group of musicians should lead this.

Attention is focused on whether ‘music to listen to,’ which is being challenged by entertainment and producers leading K-pop, can create another butterfly effect through the popularity of K-pop.
