A live-action film adaptation of Kaiji Kawaguchi’s manga Silent Fleet, starring Takao Osawa. It will be produced as an Amazon Original movie and will be released nationwide on September 29 under the distribution of Toho. The director is Kohei Yoshino, known for’ Wednesday has disappeared’ and ‘Haken Anime!’.

The original work was serialized in the morning magazine from 1988 to 1996 and boasted a total circulation of 32 million copies in paper and electronic form. Shiro Kaieda, appointed as the captain of Japan’s first nuclear-powered submarine, begins his escape with 76 crew members to realize his ideal world. Problems were involved. Osawa, a big fan of the original, plays the role of Kaieda.

He also served as a producer, building a cooperative system with the Ministry of Defense and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and making presentations to Kawaguchi. With the cooperation of the Maritime Self-Defense Force and the submarine unit, we used an actual submarine for the first time in Japan.

It is said that undersea action will be developed by fusing realistic hull and VFX technology. This is the first time Prime Video has produced a movie for theatrical release in Japan. Production is handled by Credeus, who works on the “Kingdom” and “Gintama” series. A teaser video is available on YouTube. Comments from people involved, including Osawa, are posted below.

Takao Osawa’s Comment This year, the legendary comic “Silence Fleet,” which has been said to be impossible to make into a live-action film for over 30 years, will finally be made into live action. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Kaiji Kawaguchi and everyone involved. I will play Shiro Kaieda, the main character who steals Japan’s first nuclear submarine, escapes, and confronts the world with the threat of atomic weapons.

This era of Reiwa has plunged the world into a wave of significant change. We are shooting with the best staff and cast gathered so everyone living in the present can see it. Please wait for a while until the port on September 29!!

Comments from Kaiji Kawaguchi I saw the actors and the shooting staff, led by Mr. Osawa, working together to create this work. We rely on them to bring this ship, built over 30 years ago, back to the world.
